my family

All portraits were found on family-websites, collected between 2000 and 2006.

In order to find these family websites, I had to first develop an array of strategies to come to the right parts within the WWW. The access was unblocked and the download of images possible. I never really understood why someone would want to show all these images to the public, to the world.

The connections were slow and therefore the image quality very low, so low we cannot imagine today.

I applied the same photoshop algorithm, I had already used for the work Home (2000), to blow up the small jpg’s, creating a blurred effect and shifting the photographic images towards a more painterly impression. The whole process introcued additional layers to the originally mostly charming and harmless family portraits.

The duo -show at Kunstraum Baden/CH deals with the wishes and expectations of family and happiness and their downsides. Sibylle Feucht and Simone Müller show socially critical works between the private and the public.
