Statement

My work begins with images.

Not with images as representations of the world, but as structures through which the world becomes imaginable. Every image carries histories, assumptions and omissions. Every image establishes relationships between what is made visible and what remains outside the frame.

I am interested in these structures because they shape how reality is perceived long before it is questioned.

Working across moving image, installation, drawing and photography, I investigate the narratives embedded in landscapes, bodies, archives and collective memory. Rather than treating images as documents, I approach them as active sites where cultural, political and ecological realities are continuously produced and negotiated.

Much of my recent work shifts away from anthropocentric perspectives. Rivers, plants, animals and landscapes become more than subjects of representation; they function as positions from which dominant narratives can be unsettled. This shift is not an attempt to speak for the more-than-human world, but to expose the limits of human-centred systems of knowledge and to imagine other forms of attention.

Observation, field research and documentary material frequently intersect with fictional narration. These different modes are not opposed to one another but operate as complementary ways of approaching realities that remain fragmented, situated and inherently incomplete.

My installations do not seek to resolve these fragments into coherent stories. Instead, they open spaces in which perception itself becomes negotiable. By questioning the images through which we understand the world, the work asks how reality might change once those images begin to shift.

Artist Portrait and Documentation during the installation of the wall installation crash #3 | camera and editing: Robin Deutschbein, Cologne/GER

Biography

Swiss Artist Sibylle Feucht, born in Kaufbeuren (GER), grew up in Switzerland and lives and works in Bonn (GER) since 2010, before that she lived and worked in Basel (CH). She has a conceptual work approach and uses different media such as Photography, Video and Video Installation as well as melted together Plastic Beads.
She earned a Master in Science (Biology) from the University of Basel (Biozentrum) and the Molecular Biology Institute of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), studied Art at F+F School for Art and New Media in Zurich (CH) and added an Executive Master in Design | Art + Innovation from the Academy of Art and Design, Basel (CH).

She was present in numerous solo- and group shows in Switzerland and abroad, had purchases by private collectors and governmental institutions and a number of  studiobourses, e.g., Cité des Arts, Paris (F), Rotterdam (NL) (www.iaab.ch), Urban Residency Slavutych, in the frame of 86 FESTIVAL OF FILM AND URBANISM (Ukraine), Travel Grant by Frauenkulturbüro NorthRhineWestfalia (GER) for Armenia and Georgia. 2020 nominated for CityARTists NorthRhineWestfalia (GER), 2022 research residency in the frame of Goethe on Mallorca, Casa Planas and Goethe Institute Barcelona.

Since 2011 Launch and management of the artist-run, non-profit art space DAS ESSZIMMER – space for art+ in Bonn (GER).

Her work approach spans from classical photography to instagram-based projects, large-scale projects in public space to wall installations using plastic beads, for example.
Before her artistic career, Sibylle was a Molecular Biologist: this idea of dealing with the minute and the colossal, constellations of objects that come together at multi-scalar planes, is something that she very much took with her into her artistic career. Her work reflects on political, ecological and social issues that we all face by often focusing on the small things, the private and intimate perspectives that contain the whole world. These connections and distances between the private and the public run through all of her works.
Traveling and diving into other societies and cultures is an inherent part of her work approach, yet remaining respectful and mindful of the local context she is working with.
