The work series Orphans is part of the work cycle HOME, dealing with the (inner) images and desires connected to the topos of home and family.
The images used for this work all derive from an official North American adoption website, aiming to find new parents for orphans with psychological, mental and/or physical problems. A search engine allowed to define parameters like age, sex, race and others, in order to find the ideal child for adoption. The children were presented by a portrait image and a description of their issues.
The work comes in the classical square portrait format. All individual images have been unified in that way, signalizing that they are connected with each other. The pixel-structure is a reference to the origin of the found footage.
This work was the start and base for all the other works in this materiality that I developed the following years.
