my family_02

My family_02 (2002) is a Video Installation in a lounge setting, with 6 TV-Monitor’s showing home-videos, found on and downloaded from family-websites.

The found footage was collected and afterwards assembled in the categories: birthdays, children, marriages, leisure time, festivities and pets.

In an ironic and subtle play, the direction of the private is on public display.

I and many other people can participate in the displayed, fictive and constructed family chronicles shared in the internet by this installation and become by that means part of their chronicles.

2 years later I created an updated version: my family_04 (2004)

VIPER BASEL 2002 is under the motto ”public I private” and asks about the tension between individual and collective integration in the computer-controlled structures of a media-mediated environment.
