Photographic Series of 6 | Cibachrome Print on Dibond under Plexiglas | format: 100 x 100cm

The photographic series Home derives from long journeys, searching through so called icon collections in the world wide web of the year 2000. Collecting home buttons, in this early times of the WWW that have been widely used on websites for navigating back to the starting page.

What I found was an archetypal and highly idealized house, with variations of flowers on the windows, curtains, and chimneys. It was and still is very surprising to find this cliche of a bourgeois dream house to be used as home icon for the world changing technology of the World Wide Web.

In my research I could identify 6 types of houses, that I transformed into large format, analogue prints. The process of enlarging them by using a then current Photoshop version, created, based on its integrated algorithm, a blurred aesthetic of its own. – Something that cannot be reproduced nowadays, due to the incredible advancements in technology.

These houses are now like a time capsule in many ways. Referring to the mental and visual concepts of that time towards a new technology that was still under construction and often approached in a quiet naive and idealistic way as well as to technical restrictions.

Additionally I created a set of home buttons, representing stereotypical homes from other cultures and made them available for download from my website.
