Interface Error | Strümpfe-Jungbusch, Mannheim/GER

March 4, 2016 – April 29, 2016

solo show ”Interface Error” at Strümpfe-Jungbusch – the supper art club, Mannheim/GER

A simple definition of Interface is the place or area at which different things meet and communicate with or affect each other. Based on this definition interfaces are just everywhere, physical and mental. If such an interaction is judged as something successful or as failure depends exclusively of the taken point of view.

In the solo show Interface Error at Strümpfe-Jungbusch-The Supper-ArtClub various recent works are united that refer to dysfunctional interfaces.

Already in 1620 Rabbits have been introduced onto the barren isle Norderney (GER), so that the nobles had something to shoot. Over the centuries there were less and less nobles and more and more rabbits. In 2010 30’000 animals have been counted – a great success for the rabbits but a huge problem for the island.
Furthermore the rabbit excrements function as fertilizer for the protected dunes, changing their flora and allowing Narcissuses from the front gardens to grow wild.

SNAFU stands for Situation Normal, All Fucked Up – an expression dating probably back to World War II. The same expression is used within Discordianism. It states that Communication is only possible between equals. In any hierarchy (business, government, military, etc) people and employees inevitably distort the truth of reports when dealing with their superiors, in order to avoid any punishment for relaying bad news. As a result, the superiors often operate from a distorted view of the situation, sometimes resulting in poor results. (The SNAFU principle)

The ongoing work series flowers depict explosions from current conflicts as represented in the media. Stripped off their context they become a physical manifestation of an interface.
